Deep Blue Aerospace Raises Nearly $300 Million

What happened

Deep Blue Aerospace, a Chinese reusable-rocket developer, raised nearly 2 billion yuan, about $298 million, in two funding rounds completed Sept. 24. State-linked investors from Wuxi and Shanghai led the rounds, alongside private venture firms. The funding backs flight-readiness work on the Nebula-1 reusable launch vehicle and early development of the larger Nebula-2. Deep Blue separately tested an upgraded engine, the Thunder-RS, to 132 tons of thrust in August.

Read-across for SES

Deep Blue is one of several state-backed Chinese reusable-rocket developers racing to cut launch costs, the same dynamic underwriting Guowang, Qianfan and Honghu-3's deployment schedules. Cheaper Chinese launch capacity shortens the runway for BRI Digital constellations to reach the satellite counts needed to compete for SES's own sovereign-connectivity targets. It is a capability signal, not a contract: Deep Blue's Nebula-1 has not yet flown, so the read-across is on future cadence, not current deployment.

As the brief filed it

[AGE: 7d] A Chinese state-linked funding round gave reusable-rocket developer Deep Blue Aerospace nearly $300 million, adding capacity to the launch base that deploys China's satellite constellations.
