NorthStar Earth & Space Goes Public Via SPAC
What happened
NorthStar Earth & Space, a Montreal-based space-domain-awareness company with a European base in Luxembourg, completed its merger with blank-check company Viking Acquisition Corp. on Oct. 1, 2026. The deal valued NorthStar at $300 million plus $30 million in new private investment. Its shares began trading on NYSE American as NSTR the next day, falling as much as 45% on debut. NorthStar builds ground- and space-based sensors that track objects and detect threats in orbit for government and commercial customers.
Read-across for SES
NorthStar is not a communications competitor. But its space-domain-awareness pitch to defense and civil customers sits in the same sovereign-infrastructure budgets SES courts through IRIS² and its own government pipeline. A funded, newly public SDA rival headquartered partly in SES's own home market of Luxembourg is a differently-shaped competitor for the same procurement conversations. Its tracking product does not directly overlap SES's own connectivity offering, though.
As the brief filed it
[AGE: 32h] NorthStar Earth & Space, a Canadian space-domain-awareness operator already on SES's watchlist, went public via SPAC merger Oct. 1. The deal values it at $300 million plus $30 million in new capital, making it NYSE American's newest funded sovereign-SDA competitor.
